HTTP request smuggling in NGINX 0.7.12 through 1.17.6 allows remote attackers to read unauthorized pages through a proxy. The ngx_http_send_error_page function issued an external error_page redirect without discarding the request body, leaving its bytes to be parsed as a subsequent request. Exploitation requires NGINX behind another HTTP proxy, an error_page directive that redirects to an absolute URL, and reliance on proxy-side security checks.
