Root shell escape via traversed script path
Published Jan 22, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Path traversal in the ruckus_cli2 CLI in Ruckus Wireless Unleashed and ZoneDirector allows remote authenticated users to obtain a root shell. The script-menu exec command passes an attacker-supplied path to execve without confining it to stored scripts, so ../../../bin/sh launches BusyBox. Administrative CLI credentials are required; successful exploitation escapes the restricted CLI and executes commands with UID 0 privileges.
