Administrative password exposure via cleartext storage
Published Jan 27, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Authentication weakness in affected router administration interfaces allows remote attackers to obtain administrative passwords via cleartext storage. The Realtek APMIB administration component writes administrative credentials without encryption to flash memory and a readable file. Access to exposed storage or an interface that discloses it is required; the demonstrated consequence is confidentiality loss of administrative credentials, with no documented integrity or availability impact.
