CVE-2019-19721

Crash via off-by-one pixel read

Published May 15, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024

Out-of-bounds read in VLC media player 3.0.8 and earlier allows remote attackers to crash the player via a crafted image file. DecodeBlock in codec/sdl_image.c accesses the last SDL_image pixel one byte past its unpadded height-by-pitch buffer because of an off-by-one error. Exploitation requires a target user to explicitly open the crafted file or stream; VideoLAN limits this CVE to a one-byte read, bounding the reported result to a crash.
