CVE-2019-19705

Local privilege escalation via crafted resource DLL

Published Dec 26, 2022 · Updated Apr 14, 2025

DLL preloading in Realtek High Definition Audio Driver for Windows 1.0.0.8855 allows local users to gain privileges via a crafted DLL. The package's Visual Studio 2005 MFC runtime calls LdrLoadLibrary for a resource DLL and loads its code section from the executable's folder without restricting the file to a trusted library. Exploitation requires local file placement beside the affected executable and execution of that program, after which attacker-controlled code runs with the program's privileges.
