Privilege escalation in Red Hat MariaDB APB allows local users with container access to gain UID 0 by modifying /etc/passwd. The image makes /etc/passwd group-writable while OpenShift assigns arbitrary container users to group 0, allowing an unprivileged process to append a UID 0 account and switch to it. Container access is required; restricted security contexts drop set-user-ID capabilities and limit direct access to other containers or host resources.
