Authenticated file overwrite via log copy
Published Apr 30, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Insecure file copy in BMC Control-M/Agent 7.0.00.000 allows remote authenticated users to overwrite files via the log-copy operation. The agent copies a Joblog into its owner's home directory under attacker-controlled conditions and does not prevent overwriting existing files. The attack requires TLS to be disabled; when the agent runs as root, a crafted log can replace root's .bashrc and execute commands at the next login.
