CVE-2019-18932

Privileged file overwrite via temporary-directory symlink race

Published Jan 21, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024

Symlink race in Squid Analysis Report Generator through 2.3.11 allows local users to overwrite files in privileged locations. In log.c, the default /tmp/sarg workflow checks and reuses a predictable directory with race-prone system calls, following attacker-planted symlinks. Exploitation requires sarg to run as root and the local user to win the denied.int_unsort race; file contents are not attacker-controlled, bounding the result to creation or corruption at privileged paths.
