Code execution via Bank Mode flag injection
Published Jan 13, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
OS command injection in Avast Premium Security 19.8.2393 allows context-dependent attackers to execute commands through Bank Mode requests. The SWITCH_TO_SAFEZONE handler accepts whitespace in a nominally HTTP or HTTPS URL and passes trailing text to AvastBrowser.exe as command-line flags. Code able to reach the localhost service on port 27275, such as a compromised browser extension, can supply --utility-cmd-prefix and launch processes with the logged-in account's privileges.
