Local privilege escalation via replaceable service binary
Published Apr 14, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Improper privilege management in ZOOM Call Recording 6.3.1 allows local users to gain root via a replaceable service binary. The [email protected] launches /opt/callrec/bin/rs with root privileges even though the executable is owned by the callrec account, allowing that account to substitute a Trojan horse. Exploitation requires access as the service account or another local user able to replace the binary; successful replacement executes attacker code as root.
