W-2 disclosure via unchecked employee identifier
Published Mar 25, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Authorization bypass in Harris Ormed Self Service before 2019.1.4 allows remote authenticated users to read other employees' W-2 forms. The RetrieveW2EntriesForEmployee service accepts an arbitrary empNo in a JSON request and returns the matching employee's W-2 without checking ownership. A valid account and a guessed or iterated employee number expose tax information, Social Security numbers, and home addresses; no write access is reported.
