CVE-2019-17572Network attack vector

Out-of-store directory creation via unvalidated topic names

Published May 14, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024

Path traversal in the Apache RocketMQ broker 4.2.0 through 4.6.0 allows remote attackers to create out-of-store directories via topic names. Automatic topic creation passes the client-supplied topic name into broker directory construction without rejecting ../ traversal sequences. The broker must be reachable and automatic topic creation must be enabled; the documented consequence is creation of attacker-named directories outside the intended store.
