CVE-2019-17570Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Remote code execution via faultCause deserialization

Published Jan 23, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024

Deserialization in Apache XML-RPC 3.1 through 3.1.3 allows remote attackers controlling an XML-RPC server to execute code on clients. XmlRpcResponseParser.addResult passes attacker-supplied faultCause bytes to ObjectInputStream.readObject without first honoring the client's exception setting. Exploitation requires a client connection to the malicious server and a compatible gadget chain on the client classpath; successful execution runs with the client process's privileges.
