CVE-2019-17148

Local root escalation via unchecked service string

Published Jan 7, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024

Command injection in the Parallels Service in Parallels Desktop 14.1.3 (45485) allows local attackers to gain root via crafted strings. The service passes a user-supplied string without proper validation into a system call, allowing command execution in the root context. Exploitation requires low-privileged code execution inside a guest system; the demonstrated impact is host privilege escalation and code execution.
