Unauthenticated command execution via unescaped firmware URL
Published Jan 28, 2020 · Updated Sep 17, 2024
OS command injection in Bitdefender BOX 2 allows remote attackers to execute commands by impersonating a Nimbus server. The bootstrap get_image_size function concatenates the firmware URL from get_image_url into an io.popen curl command without shell escaping or validation. Reachability requires bootstrap setup and impersonation of a trusted Nimbus infrastructure server; exploitation runs arbitrary system commands on the appliance.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
