CVE-2019-17095Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Root command execution via unchecked firmware URL

Published Jan 27, 2020 · Updated Sep 17, 2024

Command injection in Bitdefender BOX 2 2.1.47.42 and 2.1.53.45 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary system commands. The bootstrap download_image function concatenates an unchecked firmware URL from Nimbus into a curl command passed to os.execute, so shell metacharacters run as root. Exploitation requires control or impersonation of a Nimbus infrastructure server, bypassing the firmware-signing boundary and granting root command execution on the appliance.
