Cross-site scripting via executable QR-code URL
Published Feb 16, 2023 · Updated Mar 19, 2025
Cross-site scripting in Firefox for iOS 25 and earlier allows attackers to execute JavaScript after a user scans a crafted QR code. The QR-code scanner accepts a decoded javascript: URL from an external source and opens it in the current browsing context instead of restricting the input to HTTP or HTTPS. Exploitation requires user interaction and grants the injected script access to the current page context, enabling page-data reads and modification.
