Server-side code execution via RMI codebase setting
Published Jan 6, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Improper access control in OX App Suite 7.10.2 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute server-side code via RMI provisioning commands. Under certain conditions, the RMI default configuration flips to unexpected values and permits invocation of classes outside the application codebase. Exploitation requires the attacker to issue RMI provisioning commands after breaching multiple security controls and obtaining elevated permissions; the documented consequence is malicious code execution in the middleware Java process.
