Unauthenticated code execution via carriage-return traversal bypass
Published Oct 14, 2019 · Updated Oct 21, 2025
Traversal in Nazgul Nostromo nhttpd 1.9.6 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute code via crafted HTTP requests. The libmy strcutl() function ignores embedded carriage returns, allowing attacker-controlled paths to bypass the directory traversal check in http_verify() and reach executables outside the document root. Exploitation requires a non-chrooted server and executes commands with the server process's privileges without authentication.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
