Unauthenticated printer crash via unchecked page-description data
Published Nov 9, 2021 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Buffer overflow in HP OfficeJet Pro and PageWide printer firmware allows remote attackers to crash affected devices with a crafted print file. The firmware fails to recheck driver-enforced constraints on page-description-language data, allowing malformed values to reach an unsafe buffer-copy path. No authentication or user interaction is required over the network; the documented result is a printer assertion, with a core dump written locally under some conditions.
