System file overwrite via unsanitized tcpdump parameter
Published Jun 1, 2020 · Updated Oct 25, 2024
Improper input validation in affected FortiAP-S/W2 and FortiAP-U firmware allows remote authenticated users to overwrite system files via CLI. The CLI admin console passes an inadequately validated tcpdump parameter that permits a crafted command to direct output into system files. Administrative CLI access is required on FortiAP-S/W2 6.2.0 through 6.2.2 or 6.0.5 and earlier, or FortiAP-U 6.0.1 and earlier; the overwrite can disrupt device operation, while confidentiality is unaffected.
