CVE-2019-15107Known exploitationPublic exploitNetwork attack vectorHinoki check available

Unauthenticated root execution via password-change backdoor

Published Aug 16, 2019 · Updated Aug 6, 2026

Command injection in Webmin 1.900 through 1.920 allows remote attackers to execute root commands via password_change.cgi requests. Backdoored SourceForge packages evaluate the old parameter as a shell command through Perl qx when password validation fails. Exploitation requires network access and enabled expired-password changing; the related 1.890 backdoor instead evaluates expired and is exposed by default.
