CVE-2019-14906Known exploitationNetwork attack vector

Code execution via malformed BMP dimensions

Published Jan 7, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024

Heap-based buffer overflow in Red Hat SDL through 1.2.15 and 2.0.9 allows remote attackers to crash or execute code via malicious BMP files. SDL_LoadBMP_RW accepts a negative BMP width without validation, and later blit and surface-copy routines use that value to calculate heap-copy sizes. Exploitation requires an application that parses attacker-supplied BMP input; impact is application crash or possible code execution.
