CVE-2019-1454

Local privilege escalation via improper symlink handling

Published Jan 24, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Improper privilege management in ProfSvc on Microsoft Windows and Windows Server allows local users to elevate privileges via symbolic links. ProfSvc improperly handles attacker-controlled symbolic links during user-profile processing; Microsoft has not disclosed the affected routine or exact privileged file operation. An attacker must already have low-privileged local access; successful exploitation raises privileges, but the public record does not specify the resulting account or integrity level.
