Stored XSS via unsanitized X-Forwarded-For logging
Published Feb 24, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Stored XSS in NETGEAR Nighthawk X10 R9000 logs before 1.0.4.24 allows remote attackers to run script in an administrator browser. An incorrect login records the client-controlled X-Forwarded-For value without neutralizing a closing textarea tag, so later log rendering interprets the remainder as active markup. Exploitation requires network access to the login interface and an administrator to view Advanced settings, Administration, Logs; the resulting script runs in that administrator browser context.
