Script execution and local file disclosure via WebView
Published Mar 18, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Edison Mail 1.7.1 and earlier for Android allows remote attackers to run JavaScript through a crafted email. The message-rendering WebView accepts attacker-controlled event handlers and enables universal access from file URLs, so a src attribute can load arbitrary local files. The recipient must render the crafted message, and file access also requires READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission; exploitation exposes readable local data and permits script-driven changes to displayed content.
