Script execution via unsanitized HTML email attributes
Published Mar 18, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Nine for Android 4.5.3a and earlier allows remote attackers to run script through a crafted HTML email. The email renderer does not neutralize event-handler attributes before Android WebView rendering and accepts arbitrary src values that load local files. The recipient must open the message, and file loading requires READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE; the result is script execution in the message view and arbitrary local-file loading.
