Local-file disclosure via permissive WebView file access
Published Mar 18, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Newton Mail 10.0.23 and earlier allows remote attackers to read local files through a crafted HTML email. The message WebView executes event-handler JavaScript and exposes file-scheme content because setAllowUniversalAccessFromFileURLs is enabled. The recipient must render the message, and file access requires READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE; the reported consequence is local-file disclosure.
