Unauthenticated code execution via API path traversal
Published Mar 13, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Path traversal in Safescan TimeMoto and TA-8000 series version 1.0 allows remote attackers to execute code through the administrative API. The CMD_UPDATEFILE handler concatenates an attacker-controlled filename with USERDATAPATH without rejecting traversal segments, allowing the root-running service to write an uploaded file anywhere. No credentials or user interaction are required; placing a script in a boot-executed location and restarting the device yields root-level command execution.
