Remote code execution via mail template injection

Published Aug 9, 2019 · Updated Oct 21, 2025

Template injection in Atlassian Jira Server and Data Center allows remote attackers to execute code through mail forms. The ContactAdministrators and SendBulkMail actions evaluate attacker-supplied email content as template expressions rather than inert text. Exploitation requires configured SMTP and either an enabled Contact Administrators Form for unauthenticated access or JIRA Administrators access; successful exploitation executes code on the server.
