Unauthenticated file disclosure via HTML5 path-validation bypass

Published May 8, 2019 · Updated Oct 21, 2025

Path traversal in Pulse Secure Pulse Connect Secure allows remote attackers to read appliance files via crafted HTTPS requests. The HTML5 Access static-resource check tests request->uri instead of the resolved request->filepath, so a guacamole path in the query string admits traversal outside the web root. HTTPS reachability is sufficient without login or user interaction; disclosed session IDs allow impersonation of active users even when client-certificate authentication is required.
