Prototype pollution via inherited __proto__ assignment
Published Feb 18, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Prototype pollution in Component component-flatten 1.0.1 and earlier allows attackers to modify Object.prototype through a crafted resolver tree. In traverse(), deps[branch.name] follows the inherited proto accessor, and releases[branch.ref] then assigns the branch to Object.prototype. Exploitation requires a consuming application to pass attacker-controlled tree nodes; the global property changes can corrupt application behavior.
