File disclosure via enabled external parameter entities
Published Jan 30, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
XXE processing in Checkstyle before 8.29 allows remote attackers to read local files through untrusted XML configuration files. XmlLoader configures its SAXParserFactory to disable external DTD loading and general entities but leaves external parameter entities enabled. Exposure requires a service or workflow to process attacker-controlled Checkstyle XML, enabling file disclosure or server-side requests.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
