CVE-2018-9467Network attack vector

Privilege escalation via malformed URL hostname parsing

Published Nov 19, 2024 · Updated Nov 21, 2024

Origin validation flaw in Android 7.0, 7.1.1, 7.1.2, 8.0, 8.1, and 9 allows remote attackers to influence security decisions. java.net.URLStreamHandler selects only a slash, or a question mark when no slash follows, as the authority boundary and ignores backslash and hash terminators. A crafted URL can therefore make getHost() report an attacker-controlled string as the web origin without privileges or user interaction.
