CVE-2018-9440Network attack vector

Denial of service via eager URL expansion

Published Nov 19, 2024 · Updated Nov 20, 2024

Resource exhaustion in Android 7 through 9 Media Framework allows remote attackers to interrupt media processing via a crafted M3U playlist. M3UParser::parse eagerly resolves every playlist URI against the base URL and retains the expanded absolute URLs, allowing a large crafted playlist to exhaust resources. Opening attacker-controlled media is required; the documented consequence is availability loss without code execution or data access.
