Local privilege escalation via mismatched parcel decoding
Published Dec 2, 2024 · Updated Dec 3, 2024
Local privilege escalation in Google Android 8.0 and 8.1 allows local users to gain higher privileges via malformed OSUInfo parcel data. OSUInfo.java writes and reads its Parcelable fields in different sequences, so untrusted parcel data is decoded into unintended fields without validation. A low-privileged local process can trigger the mismatch without user interaction, compromising confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
