CVE-2018-9428

Local code execution via AAudio endpoint use-after-free

Published Nov 19, 2024 · Updated Nov 20, 2024

Use-after-free in Android 8.1 Media framework allows local users to execute arbitrary code through a crafted AAudio operation. AAudioServiceStreamBase::startDevice accesses a service endpoint through a shared smart pointer from multiple threads after the endpoint can be freed, enabling an out-of-bounds write. Exploitation requires user interaction but no additional execution privileges, and successful memory corruption runs code locally on the affected device.
