Local privilege escalation via unchecked WLAN configuration
Published Dec 4, 2024 · Updated Dec 5, 2024
An out-of-bounds write in the MTK cfg80211 driver on Android and Google Pixel devices allows local users to escalate privileges. The mtk_cfg80211_vendor_packet_keep_alive_start and mtk_cfg80211_vendor_set_config functions process WLAN configuration without a required bounds check, permitting a write beyond the destination buffer. Exploitation requires local code already running with System privileges and no user interaction, limiting exposure to privileged applications on affected devices.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
