CVE-2018-9392

Local privilege escalation via GPS HAL bounds omission

Published Dec 4, 2024 · Updated Dec 5, 2024

Android before patch level 2018-06-05 has an out-of-bounds write in the MediaTek GPS HAL that allows local users to elevate privileges. The get_binary routine in data_coder.c writes decoded binary input without checking destination bounds, allowing memory corruption within the GPS HAL. Exploitation requires System-level execution on an affected MediaTek-based Google Pixel device; no user interaction is required, and successful exploitation gains higher privileges.
