Local privilege escalation via unchecked memory download
Published Nov 19, 2024 · Updated Nov 21, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in the Android MediaTek bootloader allows local users to gain elevated privileges through a crafted memory download. In download.c, a special download-to-memory mode copies attacker-controlled data without checking destination bounds, permitting memory corruption. Exploitation requires physical device access and user interaction but no additional execution privileges; successful corruption elevates local privileges.
