Local privilege escalation via unchecked debugfs write
Published Nov 19, 2024 · Updated Nov 21, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in Android mtksocaudio allows local users with system execution privileges to escalate privileges through debugfs. The mtkscoaudio debugfs handler permits an arbitrary kernel-memory write because it omits a bounds check, while weakened SELinux policy exposes the path. Exploitation requires system execution privileges on a MediaTek-based Android device and no user interaction; successful use gains higher local privileges.
