Media-service crash via unchecked HEVC slice data
Published Nov 27, 2024 · Updated Nov 29, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in Android 7, 7.1.1, 7.1.2, 8, and 8.1 allows remote attackers to crash the media service via a crafted HEVC file. ihevcd_parse_slice_data in ihevcd_parse_slice.c reads beyond a heap buffer because it fails to bounds-check parsed HEVC slice data. Exploitation requires user interaction with the crafted file; the documented consequence is a media-service crash, not code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
