Information disclosure via unchecked string-pool offsets
Published Nov 19, 2024 · Updated Nov 20, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in Android Framework 6.0 through 8.1 allows local users to disclose process memory through a malformed APK. ResStringPool::setTo subtracts unvalidated string and style offsets to calculate mStringPoolSize, permitting reads beyond the supplied resource data. A crafted APK must reach package installation; successful exploitation exposes memory data without enabling modification or service interruption.
