Unauthenticated code execution via diagnostic command injection
Published Jun 11, 2018 · Updated Oct 21, 2025
Command injection in VMware NSX SD-WAN by VeloCloud Edge 3.1.1 allows remote attackers to execute code via web UI diagnostics. The /scripts/ajaxPortal.lua run_diagnostic handler processes attacker-controlled destination or name parameters as shell input, interpreting command substitutions during ping, traceroute, or DNS tests. Exploitation requires network access to the local web UI, which is disabled by default, and requires no credentials.
