Local code execution via oversized Site Manager label
Published May 25, 2026 · Updated May 25, 2026
Stack buffer overflow in Globalscape CuteFTP 5.0.4 allows local users to execute arbitrary code through a crafted Site Manager label. The client accepts a label longer than 520 bytes, overwrites the saved return address, and transfers control to embedded shellcode when a shortcut is created and later launched. Exploitation requires local access to enter the payload, create the shortcut, and launch it; code runs in the CuteFTP user’s context.
