Published May 25, 2026 · Updated May 25, 2026
Insecure file permissions in Splinterware System Scheduler Professional 5.12 allow local users to execute code with LocalSystem privileges. The installation directory grants Everyone modify access, allowing WService.exe to be renamed and replaced before the WindowsScheduler service launches it. The Professional service must be installed; its periodic service check triggers the replacement without requiring the local user to restart the service.
