Local crash via recursive XML entity expansion
Published Apr 26, 2026 · Updated Apr 26, 2026
Uncontrolled recursion in Zenmap 7.70 allows local users to crash the application by importing a crafted XML scan file. The scan import parser expands nested XML entity definitions without bounding recursive expansion, exhausting CPU and memory as the entity graph grows exponentially. Exploitation requires local access to import the file; the demonstrated result is heavy resource consumption and a Zenmap crash, with no reported data access or modification.
