Local code execution via oversized configuration value
Published Mar 28, 2026 · Updated Mar 28, 2026
Stack-based buffer overflow in Practical Music Search 0.42 allows local users to execute arbitrary code through crafted configuration values. The configuration parser accepts an oversized value without enforcing the destination stack buffer's size, allowing control data to be overwritten with a ROP chain. A local user who can supply the configuration file can run shell commands with the PMS process's privileges; the public exploit targets 32-bit Linux.
