Script execution via unescaped parser tag output
Published Jan 5, 2023 · Updated Apr 10, 2025
Cross-site scripting in Wikimedia Foundation I18nTags before 2018-08-06 allows remote attackers to execute script via parser tag input. The formatnum, grammar, plural, and linktrail hooks returned attacker-controlled tag results as HTML without reparsing and escaping them as wikitext. No account is required to submit crafted tags through a parsing interface, but another user must render the output for cross-user script execution.
