CVE-2018-25049Network attack vector

Service interruption via unbounded email regex

Published Dec 27, 2022 · Updated Apr 11, 2025

Regular expression denial of service in nmanousos email-existence 0.1.6 and earlier allows remote attackers to interrupt service via a long email. The exported check function tests unbounded input against /^\S+@\S+$/, whose repeated non-whitespace matches cause excessive processing before rejection. Network exposure depends on a consuming application passing attacker-controlled email strings to the library; the consequence is prolonged CPU-bound processing and service interruption, not data access or modification.
